Santorini is the southernmost island of the Cyclades. Here live about 15 550 people, the main activity is tourism, fishing, and winemaking. The surface is Santorini 75 km2, the thirteenth largest island in the Cyclades, approximately the same size as Serifos and Sifnos and about five times less than the Cyclades largest island Naxos. The two nearest neighbouring islands are Thirasia and Anafi.

The largest villages are Fira, also Santorini's capital, and its administrative center, Oia (pronounced Ia), which is the island's cultural centre and Emborion where the majority of the resident Greeks live. The most popular charter destinations are Kamari, Perissa and Perivolos.
